About Emma
The unintended expatriate blogger behind MildBriarField

Hello, I am Emma
I work as a project manager, I'm a parent, and I’m an expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years back I moved here with my family, and what began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a work opportunity and soon grew into something much bigger.
The first months were intense — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more challenging than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. But little by little, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built MildBriarField
Most online resources were either corporate relocation tips or shallow travel material. What was lacking was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another mundane travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Netherlands goes on, and so does the learning process. As long as the information stays useful, I’ll keep documenting what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Emma
